The Student Finance Team supports students who, for whatever reason, need financial help to complete their studies.
Each year The Bournemouth & Poole College receives money from the Government for financial bursaries. We can’t guarantee funding as it’s subject to what is made available from the Government, and applications will be dealt with on a first come first served basis. The funding available to you depends upon various factors such as your age, course, household income and any other government funding you or your family are in receipt of.
What’s on offer?
If you meet the criteria, the bursary may be able to cover travelling to The College, course equipment and course costs and so help students achieve their goals and successfully complete their course.
Vulnerable and Discretionary Bursaries (16-18 year old students)
Including College Meal Support and Travel Support
Support with the costs of your College course and support with the costs of travel. You could also end up with a monthly payment paid direct to you to help you with those little extras. The Vulnerable bursary is for students who are in or leaving care, getting Income Support/Universal Credit in their own right or those students who face exceptional circumstances. The Discretionary bursary is for those students who have a lower income within their families.
Learner Support Fund and Aspire Grant (Over 19 year old students)
Support with the costs of your course including exams, educational visits and materials/equipment. If you live over 3 miles away from your site of study you may qualify for a contribution towards the cost of travel pass as well! This funding is means tested on household income less than £20K. Students who have received waiver of their fee for a L3 course need to apply for this support. The Aspire Grant is aimed at those students who are studying on a Level 1 or Level 2 course that have to pay the full fees. The Aspire Grant is a one off payment direct to The College, which will partially help towards the cost of tuition that you may be asked for. Advanced Learning Loans
You are eligible for an Advanced Learning Loan (see link below), if you are a UK resident aged 19 or over when you start to study a course at Level 3. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. You also won’t have to pay anything back until your income is over £27,295 a year. Please note that you do not have to take out a loan to apply for a course. Advanced Learning Loan
On top of the Advanced Learner Loan. The College may be able to support with the costs of childcare and travel if you live over 3 miles away from your site of study. This funding is means tested on household income of less than £20K.
